Colin Daniel grabbed his first goal in Silkmen colours at the weekend in the exciting 2-2 draw with Bradford City. It was just reward for the midfielder who has been an ever present for Keith Alexander this season putting in a series of committed displays.
We caught up with the former Crewe man after training today for a quick word about Saturday and the game with MK Dons in the FA Cup.
Great to get your first goal for the club?
Absolutely, especially given the stick I have been getting from Hamza and Emile who I share a house with. So a big relief albeit it was disappointing we couldn't hang on for the win.
Was that the overriding feeling after the game amongst the team?
Yes and no. It was different to the Dagenham game where we know we should have won. We certainly played well in the first half and I thought we were good value for the two goal lead. But they changed things around a bit at half-time and brought Boulding on who I thought was a good foil for their big men. He held it up well and it was a difficult 45 minutes. So in the end, on the balance of play a draw was probably a fair result. But when you get two goals in front you always fancy your chances so in that regard it was disappointing.
And what do you remember about the goal?

Well the biggest shock was that it was from a header! I can't ever remember scoring with my head before. Certainly not since leaving school. But the gaffer and Gary are always telling me to gamble, using my pace to pick up some knock downs. The ball got hit long to Wrighty who went up for the ball with the defender. I'm not sure if anyone got a touch but it bounced nicely for me and with their keeper having committed himself it was great to see it go in.
Did you fear the worst when they get back on level terms?
Yes I did think it would be back to the walls stuff. As I said they played at a good pace at the start of the second half. But we managed to settle, kept talking as a team and I thought we came more into the game towards the end.
So a happy household on Saturday night?
I suppose it was given that Hamza also scored and Emile probably had his best game for the club. There was no way Hamza was going to let me steel the limelight though! Seriously given the state he was in during the week it was testimony to his commitment that he went out there and played.
The FA Cup - hold any special memories for you?
Since making the step up to the professional game I've only been involved in three games and that was for Crewe. We beat Carlisle in Round Two and then got drawn to play Millwall in Round Three which was a bit of a blow. We held them at there placed but managed to lose the reply at home which was an even bigger blow as you start dreaming of pulling a big club. So I don't really have any personal memories of note to call on. But as a kid growing up I was no different, dreaming of scoring a goal in the final for your team?
So what would be your dream tie?
Well certainly not MK Dons. But we can't change the draw and whilst they're doing well at the top end of League One, there's no reason why we shouldn't go there looking to pick up a result. We certainly shouldn't be afraid of them. It will be a good test at what I am told is a great ground. So something to look forward to. And if we make it through that and then the second round, well for me it would be great to draw Forest at the City Ground. Being a Nottingham lad and a fan of the club growing up it would be great. And I know Hamza and Emile would love to get the chance to go back there and playing against their old club too. But as I said, we've got the MK Dons to worry about first.
