FA Cup 1st Round Draw this Sunday

Posted on: Sat 24 Oct 2009

Macclesfield Town supporters well know the excitement surrounding the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.

The 'holy grail' of a First Round Draw against Football League opposition added extra excitement to our qualifying matches against South Liverpool, Bishop Aukland, Southport or Alty and set up some great moments in Macclesfield Town history.

Across the country this weekend, non-League clubs are facing a fourth-qualifying round which could throw up some interesting games for the Silkmen, now established on the other side of the Football League divide.

Buxton, Altrincham, Northwich Vics and FC United of Manchester jump out of the potential draws as local opposition. Old Conference title rivals Stevenage, Kidderminster and Woking could be in the hat, as could to a return to Kettering, the scene of the Silkmen's Conference triumph or a host of former Football League clubs itching to get one over someone from the level above.

Not to mention the bigger names in the bottom two divisions; Norwich, Charlton or Leeds, the chance to renew the rivalry with Stockport County or a first visit to Tranmere.

Tomorrow sees one of the biggest days in the non-League season as some clubs will keep the FA Cup dream alive with a win, or draw to force a replay.

Last season saw the Silkmen overcome Harlow and Port Vale on the way to coming inches away from taking Everton to a replay in the Third Round.
