With just 45 goals as a team, the Silkmen were amongst the lowest scorers in League Two last season. Only Port Vale, Accrington and Chester found the net on fewer occasions, something the gaffer is only too aware of.
"We can't get away from the fact that we didn't score enough goals last season," explained Keith. "Only Gareth Evans got into double figures and with him having moved on Bradford the challenge is there for one or two of the strikers to step up to the mark."
"It would be great to someone up around the twenty goal mark. But to be honest I don't care where the goals come from. Successful sides have goals throughout the team. Defence, midfield and up front. It doesn't matter where they come from. Exeter proved that last year. Their top goalscorer only had ten to his name."
"It's all about confidence and that's what we've tried to instil in the lads during pre-season. We're encouraging them to shoot and the quality of some of the goals we have scored hopefully shows the work is paying off. There's someway to go but I am confident that as a team we'll create the chances. We just need to convert more of them."
"There's going to be some good strike forces in League Two this season. Notts County have been splashing the cash and in Lee Hughes, Karl Hawley and Luke Rodgers they'll be sure to cause some problems this season."
And the bookies would appear to share that view, quoting Hughes as 11/2 favourite to top the scoring charts. The Silkmen will get an early look at him and his striker partners when County visit the Moss Rose for our opening home league game on August 15.
Jack Lester is unsurprisingly not far behind at 8/1 with another earlier opponent, Northampton's Adebayo Akinfenwa third favourite at 10/1. Former Silkmen Gareth Evans is quoted at 16/1 whilst Emile Sinclair is on offer at 33/1.
As an outside bet, John Rooney at 66/1 looks good value for money.
