Silkmen World caught up with Macclesfield Town's latest signing Kyle Wilson today for his first interview since joining the club from FC United this week.
Kyle, Welcome to Macclesfield. Can you tell us a bit about yourself? What sort of player are you?
"I'm a striker, someone who likes to come short and get the ball. I'm also good at running in behind the defenders and on to through-balls and can play as a target man like that. I'm not the tallest but see myself in the Michael Owen role and knowing where the back of the net is."
You played for England when you were younger. That must have been a great experience.
"It was really good to get to travel that much and visit some interesting places. In the games I was used off the bench a lot but it was a real education for me and helped me develop my game.
"I was playing alongside lads like Anton Ferdinand, Scott Carson, Chris Eagles, Lee Croft and Matt Sadler and I was good mates with David Raven who is with Carlisle now. It was a good time, and it certainly looks good on the CV!"
You've been with FC United for a season. Did you enjoy your time there?
"It was brilliant really. They are a great club and it was a lot of fun. I'd had a really tough couple of years with injuries and having left Crewe it was just what I needed. It gave me a good chance to play a lot of football, score a lot of goals and just start to enjoy the game again.
"It was brilliant for me to get the confidence to play the way I wanted to and it paid off because I was the top goalscorer in the country at one point. I got injured again which was very frustrating but I'm fully fit now.
There are a few Macc connections with FCUM but in particular Phil Power is a bit of a legend here. What was it like working with Phil?

"He's a real joker. A great guy and a good laugh in the dressing room and still thinks he's got it. He always joins in with training, fancies himself as a goalscorer and we used to joke about goals 'paying the bills'.
"He can still keep up though, in training at least and I know all about his successes with Macc because he's told us all about them. Several times! He's told me that he'll be coming down to watch us next season and I'm sure he'll get a good reception."
Sounds like you had a great time there, was it hard to leave?
"Like I said, they are a great club, but since leaving Crewe I've wanted to get back into the Football League. I really enjoyed myself up at Gigg Lane (home to FC) but always had confidence in my ability to get back into the League.
"As a player you always want to test yourself against the best players and the best opposition so this was an opportunity I couldn't pass up and I am so grateful to Macc for giving me the chance to prove myself at this level. I certainly had no hesitation in coming to the Moss Rose when I heard the gaffer was interested."
You mentioned Gigg Lane; are you looking forward to going back there next season?
"It's a good ground and I'll feel at home there after playing a lot last season. I'm also looking forward to facing Crewe, because after I was released I feel like I have something to prove. But I'm just looking forward to being a Football League player again and scoring goals for Macc."
Have you set yourself any targets?
"I've never really done that. All I want next season is a chance to get into the side, get playing well from the start and see what happens. I can't wait."
Good luck Kyle and we look forward to reporting on your first goal, one which is hopefully the first of many, here on Silkmen World.
