Matt Lowe signs one year deal

Posted on: Tue 12 May 2009

Matt Lowe was all smiles this morning as he put pen to paper on a new one year deal with the Silkmen. It's the youngster's first professional contract, having been a regular member of the youth team for the past two seasons.

And it was in stark contrast to the news last week when his name initially appeared on the player released list.

"The decision on whether or not to offer Matt a deal was always a borderline one," explained Keith Alexander. "Having had time to rethink and speak to a few other people we have decided to reward him with a one year deal."

"He's worked hard and now has the opportunity to show everyone he has what it takes to make the step up."

"It's always a risk with any young player but Matt has his head screwed on and knows what is expected of him."

"Clubs like Macc can't survive without their younger players. We don't have the ability to go out their and just buy in players. So it's a balance between a bit of experience and bringing on the likes of Matt much in the same manner as we have done with likes of John Rooney, Matt Flynn and Shaun Brisley in the last year."

"And just as important is a player's versatility. Whilst Matt is predominantly a full back he can play elsewhere and that's vital when you are operating with a smaller squad when compared to others."

Matt will join his new team mates for the first time when they report back for training on July 1st.
