Silkmen Golf Day a huge success

Posted on: Fri 24 Apr 2009

The Spring 2009 Macclesfield Town Golf Day was a huge success with over 60 golfers enjoying the splendid surrounds of Mottram Hall on Thursday.

Blessed by some great weather, the guests were joined by manager Keith Alexander, goalkeeping coach Steve Cherry and first teamers Jon Brain, Gareth Evans, Matty Flynn, James Jennings and Lee Bell all looking to test themselves against the tough parkland course.

But the players had to look on in envy as it was chairman Mike Rance whose team scooped 1st place with an impressive 91 points, seven clear of their nearest rivals, the team entered by website and programme editor Richard Stanton.

Following a carvery meal and presentation, everyone was entertained by former Burnley and Wolves legend Steve Kindon, now one of the most popular speakers on the after dinner circuit.

A raffle and auction, which included a signed Wayne Rooney England shirt completed the days proceedings, ensuring a great day was had by all with the club also benefitting financially.

"We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the event, and to everyone at Mottram Hall for looking after us so well," said a delighted Commercial Manager Penny Baguley, "not to mention all those who kindly donated prizes to the auction and raffle."

"The feedback on the day was extremely positive with many asking about our plans for the next golf day. We'll certainly be looking to make the event a regular feature of the commercial calendar."
