Transfer news - Striker departs the Moss Rose
Martin Gritton will sign tomorrow for fellow Coca-Cola League Two side Chesterfield subject to successfully passing a medical in the morning. The striker arrived at the Moss Rose in the summer of 2007 and made a total of 45 starts for the Silkmen, plus a further 13 from the bench, scoring 16 goals in the process. His contract was due to expire at the end of the current season.
Two of those goals came in our recent trip to Saltergate, a performance that played a big part in persuading the Spireites to sign the 30 year old a 2 ½ year deal for an undisclosed fee. The transfer is expected to be confirmed later today / early tomorrow once formal papers have been presented to the Football League
During his time at the club Martin has been a committed and important part of the squad and we would like to wish him well for the future.
Chairman Mike Rance said "It's always sad to lose a player like Martin who has been nothing other than thoroughly professional during his time at Moss Rose. We of course wish him well. But things constantly change in football and his departure will give Keith Alexander a chance to bring in some new blood with the clear intent of strengthening the squad both for the rest of this season at also for the 2009/10 campaign."
