Club support for local good causes
Every August the FA Community Shield, a game played at Wembley between the Premier League Champions and the FA Cup Winners, kicks off the new season. The proceeds from the game, contested this campaign by Manchester United and Portsmouth, are donated to charity with all affiliated clubs participating. This year the Silkmen received £5000 which was distributed in equal portions to three local charitable organisations.
Cheshire Peaks and Plains Housing Trust aims to provide homes and services to help local people build strong and united neighbourhoods. It also provides customers with a range of support services to help them in their homes. The Silkmen are currently working with CPP to develop a street football programme based at Ash Grove Primary School.
The East Cheshire Housing Consortium is a registered charity providing supported housing services, primarily for people with mental health needs.
The Macclesfield Heritage Trust has responsibility for Macclesfield's museums. The Silk Museums in Macclesfield tell the definitive story of silk. Compelling exhibits on three sites show a working Victorian Silk Mill, costume and silk manufacturing displays providing a 'hands on' experience that allows children and grown ups to understand the story of silk from cocoon to catwalk!
