It hurts but we'll bounce back

Posted on: Thu 04 Sep 2008

SIMON YEO has promised fans that the doom and gloom clouds will soon be blown away from over Moss Rose - starting against Luton Town at the weekend.

Yeo made his first start for the club against Crewe on Tuesday night - putting in a 70 minute shift at Gresty Road, before being substituted.

And he believes that despite the 3-0 defeat in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy - there were enough positives to take from the second half performance to suggest that they can stop the rot against Mick Harford's side on Saturday.

"I think everyone at the club must have run over a black cat at the moment, because we are just not getting any of the breaks or that little bit of luck that could change things around," said Yeo.

"It is hard being positive I know when results are going badly, but there is no sense of the players being down in the dumps at the moment. All clubs have a bad spell in the season and go through a bit of a dodgy run. We are having ours now and it hurts.

"Obviously we are not happy, but I saw enough in the second half at Crewe to give us all reason to hope that a turnaround is not far away. "If we can play like that for 90 minutes against Luton on Saturday then that will give us a really good chance of getting some points on the board.

"We just need that little break and to get the first goal and that will give everyone the kind of confidence boost that we need right now."

Yeo is hoping that he can make his first league start of the season, despite still feeling a little ring-rusty, following his arrival this summer. The hugely experienced former Lincoln City player is champing at the bit to find the goal trail again and added:

"I would be nice to get a start against Luton, but that is up to the manager. I had to come off against Crewe after 70 minutes because I was shattered, having not really played regularly for some time.

"The run-out will have done me good. I am still a bit rusty and fluffed a chance that came to me, which told me I am not at my sharpest yet. But I am still keen to get out there and help get the club started this season if I am called on. The gaffer knows that and I'll be ready to respond when the call comes."

Saturday's Blues Review will feature more of an in-depth interview with Simon in which he talks about his time in the Army and his late arrival on the professional footballing scene.
