Silkmen recruit new goalkeeping coach
IN SAFE HANDS
The Moss Rose back room staff has been strengthened by the arrival of Steve Cherry as goalkeeping coach. Steve's part time role will see him assist the club's keepers with dedicated training sessions during the week and also on match days.
Steve amassed over 600 games in a career that saw him play at the highest level for teams including Derby County, Plymouth and Notts County. Since retiring from the game, Steve has been active on the coaching side and worked closely with Silkmen boss Keith Alexander at Lincoln City playing a key role in the development of keepers such as Alan Marriot who played over 350 games for the Imps.
Most recently he has filled a similar job at Meadow Lane working with the likes of Kevin Pilkington and Russell Hoult, but left in the summer as the Magpies were keen for him to take on a full time role.
"Steve has worked for me in the past and I know he will be a big asset to the club," explained Keith Alexander. "He will be working closely with Jon Brain and the other keepers on all aspects of their game and I am delighted to secure his services. He was an excellent keeper in his own right and the lads are sure to benefit from his experience."
We would like to extend a big welcome to Steve and we hope he enjoys his time at the Moss Rose.
