Nice to be back
Less than two years ago Paul Ince was contemplating a move into management at the Moss Rose. Many felt he was mad to take up the challenge, the Silkmen then cast adrift at the foot of Coca-Cola League Two.
But save us he did and last night the 'Guvnor' returned to where it all started, now manager of Premier League side Blackburn Rovers. Here is what he had to say moments after the game had finished.
"It's really nice to be back. I've a lot of good memories of my time at the Moss Rose as it is where I really learnt my trade as a manager. No matter what I do or go onto do in management it all started here at Macclesfield and I will be forever grateful for that."
"A lot of things of happened since then and it seems as if I am moving on every year. But I came here to do a job and I kept the club in the Football League. That was my obligation and that is was I was able to achieve."
"Due to the financial situation I had to really move on and the job at the MK Dons was the right one for me at the time. It's a fantastic club with fantastic players and to do the double there was something I am equally proud of."
"I didn't really see the Blackburn job coming but as soon as it did I had to jump at the chance. How I follow up the last two seasons results at Ewood Park is something I am still trying to work out. But the key thing is that I am enjoying it and looking forward to the challenge."
"I've got a good bunch of lads and the spirit is fantastic. It's still a learning curve for me and clearly early days. But I am excited and can't wait to get my teeth into the new role."
"At times it seems like a million miles away from my time with Macc. At Blackburn I've got a dozen staff whereas at Macc I had to do things like book the team coach. But it's called learning your trade and I'm glad I took the route that I have taken. Let's hope it carries on from here."
"People said I was mad to come to Macc. But when I saw them for the first time at Bristol Rovers I knew they had some fighting spirit and with a bit of guidance they could survive. I woke up the next day and said 'This is the club for me'."
"The likes of Duncan and Ray are still with me as things like loyalty and trust are important in this game. It doesn't happen all the time but I've always been very close to my staff and have always tried to look after them and long may that continue."
