John Rooney has committed his immediate future to the Silkmen, putting pen to paper on a two year deal. Despite being just one year into his two year scholarship, the young striker has impressed sufficiently enough during his first twelve months to be awarded a professional contract.

"John has come on leaps and bounds in the last year," explained John Askey. "Twelve months ago I suppose you could say we were taking a bit of a risk. But upon his arrival John took on board what we had to say, got his head down and worked hard to get to where he is today. He is still by no means a finished product but if he continues to progress the way he has done then he will score a lot of goals for the club."

"For his age he is very strong and he's now got the chance to work and train with the first team and hopefully show what he can do at the higher level."
