Striker accepts new deal
In a busy few days for transfer news, Gareth Evans committed his future to the club by agreeing to a one year deal.
The striker impressed during his first season at the club after being released by Crewe Alexandra after originally signing on a one month contract. Then manager Ian Brightwell saw enough in those first few weeks to extend the deal, the Macclesfield born player eventually making 21 starts for the Silkmen and a further 24 from the bench.
He scored seven goals in total, including three after coming off the bench, the latest the winning strike against Chesterfield in May, a result that secured our League Two status. That goal rid Gareth of an unwanted 'monkey on his back' as his previous six goals had come in games that the Silkmen had failed to win, picking up just one point in the process.
"Gareth is an important part of our striking options for next season," explained Keith Alexander. "He's only twenty and is still learning his trade but he has a presence on the pitch. He's aggressive and clearly has improved in his first season playing senior football. If he can continue that progress then I am confident he will score goals for us."
"He can also play out wide and together with Greeny, Gritts and Simon Yeo I am pleased with the options I currently have up front. However we do need to strengthen that area further and I am hopeful of being in a position to bring one or possibly two more players to the club over the course of the next few weeks."
