A great move for me
Lee Bell today became the Silkmen's first signing of the summer, agreeing to a one year deal after spending last season with Mansfield Town. With interest from other clubs the midfielder said he had no hesitation in opting to come to the Moss Rose once he had spoken to manager Keith Alexander.
"Last season was a big disappointment for everyone at Mansfield. We always felt we would have what it took to get away from the bottom two places. But in the end we just didn't get the results our performances should have merited," explained Lee.
"It was especially disappointing on a personal level as I missed most of the run in with a knock to the knee that took longer than expected right itself. I only returned to the side for the last game of the season at Dagenham, by which time we had been relegated. I hope for everyone involved at Field Mill that they will come back stronger but for me I was determined to play my football in the League and that is why I am delighted to sign for Macc."
"I'd spoken to a few clubs and to be honest most of them just talked about finances. Football was almost secondary. It was totally different with Keith. He explained to me what plans he had for the club next season and where I could fit in and that was a big factor in my decision to sign."
"I am a Crewe lad and living just the other side of Congleton I know the area well and I can't wait to get started when pre-season training gets underway. I was travelling up to four hours a day to Mansfield which became a bit of a drag and by signing early I can also enjoy a short holiday with my girlfriend before focusing my mind on the season ahead."
"In terms of what the fans should expect from me, well I pride myself on always giving 100% even when I am perhaps not having the best of games. So I will always give my all and I am not afraid to get stuck in. However I would like to think I am confident with the ball at my feet."
"I've set myself a target of scoring ten goals which I think is a good marker for anyone playing in midfield. It's a challenge especially as I've been a bit shy in front of goal in recent years but Keith has said he wants me to get forward and I am confident it is a realistic aim. But of course I realise I first have to prove myself and earn the right to get a starting place."
