Happy with a point
"It wasn't the best of games from a spectator's point of view but we have to be happy with a point as we didn't really create that many chances but at the same time didn't look like conceding. It was typical end of season fare really. But a useful exercise nonetheless as I was able to have a look at a few of the fringe players."
"John Rooney came in and I thought he did very well. He is a useful prospect and has a spark about his play. However it is a big step up from youth team football and as expected he tired towards the end of the game. That's where we miss having a reserve team as a lot of their younger lads looked to have better match fitness. But we'll hopefully remedy that next season and the likes of John and the other youngsters will benefit from getting that greatly and I expect to get more from them next year."
"I was also pleased for Andrew Teague. He's had a tough season with injury but he's been doing well at Hyde and I thought he did very well for me today when he came into the side. Deciding whether to offer him a new deal is one of the tough decisions I have now to make."
"It is certainly going to be a busy few weeks as a lot of the players are out of contract. I keep hearing stories that some have already signed for other teams but we'll wait and see what happens on that front. It mustn't be forgotten that we've finished in the bottom half of the table so I would be surprised if the likes of Manchester United are coming in for them!"
"But collectively we have achieved what we set out to do and the players deserve a lot of credit for how they have responded since we arrived at the club. Ultimately it comes down to how they perform and you can't fault their efforts over the last twelve games."
"I won't be sitting down with the players until Friday when I will be making the offers to the lads I want to keep on. But even if some have been tapped up by other clubs I am confident I can build a squad for next season's challenge of making sure we can kick-on from here. The results over the last twelve games will mean for nothing if we don't build on that and set our targets a lot higher for next season."
"Gary and I have been to a lot of games over the course of the past nine months so we have a fair idea of what players can do for us. We're also not afraid to give people their first opportunity in the game so don't be surprised if there are a few unfamiliar names joining the club. It is about striking that balance and hopefully that is something we have done throughout our managerial career."
"I am labelled as a long ball manager, something that has almost certainly held back my career. But I want my team to play football as much as any other, as was evident in our goal against Chesterfield last Saturday that came about from a string of six or seven nicely worked passes. But you do that in the opposition's third and that is something I believe in strongly."
