Post match reaction

Posted on: Sat 02 Feb 2008

Ian Brightwell

"Again we've only got ourselves to blame, we didn't score at the attacking end and let a poor goal in at our end.  We created plenty of chances but unfortunately Jonny made a mistake and it's cost us the game.  I'm not putting the blame on him though because he's made some great saves in the last few matches and if we'd have put away some of our chances then maybe it wouldn't have mattered as much.

"Generally I thought his performance was very good, he came and collected balls, made the saves he needed to and I don't think in the second half he had a save to make and the one thing that he did need to do he didn't do, but that happens and I'm not going to get on his case about it.  It's that one mistake he's made but unfortunately for the team today it has cost us.

"If we'd have finished the game today without creating any chances then I would have been worried but we had more than enough to have put the game out of their reach.  In the second half they had maybe two chances and have taken the one we gave to them and that's what has cost us the three points today.

"The away form has been fantastic all through the season and particularly recently.  Again the performance today was good, it wasn't the prettiest of games, but the result wasn't what we needed and we need to sort that out.  We've got a game on Tuesday which we're looking forward to and the simple fact is that we need to be winning more at home and it has to start on Tuesday.

"It was a good save from the penalty and that's the last two penalties that we've now missed.  Terry hit the ball well but you have to give credit to their keeper, especially to save the rebound too, but on another day it would have gone in, as would some of our other chances.

"Up until today we've had a great run through January with some very difficult games and we were hoping to continue that today. But it's gone now and we have to take the positives forward and look to get three points on Tuesday and the Saturday after.  We've got plenty of games coming up and it's down to me and the players to get more points on the board.

"You're looking to win as many home games as possible and then pick up points away from home when you can but we're creating the chances here and getting in the right positions but we need to start doing more about making the most of them.

"I don't think there are any fresh injuries ahead of Tuesday night, just the usual bumps and bruises.  We will have Gareth Evans available again after his suspension which will strengthen the squad a little bit more.  They'll rest tomorrow and do a little bit of team preparation work on the Monday before the game on Tuesday night.

"We're hoping Richard Edghill will be back in training with us towards the middle or end of the week so he may be available for Saturday but if not then the following Tuesday."
