Pitch update
With heavy rain forecast for Friday we caught up with Head Groundsman Mark Mathers this afternoon to find out the very latest on the 'pitch' front.
"We obviously had a lot of rain over the past seven days and as such the water table is very high," explained Mark. "The forecast is for more heavy rain tomorrow but for a dry Saturday. So given that we are pretty confident the game will go ahead."
"It very much depends on what sort of rain we have on Friday though. If we get hit by some really persistent and torrential rain that carries on into the early hours of Saturday morning then we may be up against it. But the pitch has taken what the heavens have had to throw at in this week so far, so hopefully we shouldn't have too much to worry about."
"The surface won't however be up to its normal standard as it has been difficult to do that much to it this week after the Youth Team's game last Saturday. But I don't think we are along in such problems."
"I've already spoken to the referee and he is happy and currently doesn't plan to make any early inspection. There's no lying water on the surface as it stands so had we been playing today we would have been ok. I'll be speaking with him again tomorrow and if need be he will plan to get here early on the morning of the game. But as I have said already, hopefully it shouldn't come to that and the lads will be able to set about the challenge of taking on Lincoln."
