Licensed to shoot
Match winner Danny Thomas spoke exclusively to Silkmen Online today to reflect on his goal against Brentford and how the players were desperate to put the Mansfield game behind them.

A rich vein of form?
"I said when I arrived at the club that I needed to add more goals to my repertoire. I wouldn't say I had anything to prove to anyone; probably more to myself if I am being honest. So it's been great to get 3 in the last five, and all of them crucial ones in front of the home fans."
"Some have said it's a rich vein of form but I think that's a bit over the top. If I can carry it on at a similar rate for another ten or so games then maybe. But whether I score or not, the most important thing is that we start winning more games of football."
"The gaffer and Asa have worked hard on building up my confidence in front of goal and are always encouraging me to shoot when I get the chance. And I've also been studying wingers at a much higher level. I always used to ask myself why such players were getting more goals. It's all about being in the right place at the right time. If you watch them, they seem to know when to gamble. In the past I have probably been a bit guilty of staying out on the flank. So now I am always looking to get into area whenever I can."
"Last night's goal was very much an example of how that can pay off for you. But I must admit to feeling a bit nervous for the last ten minutes or so. However I thought we did really well, the back four defending a high line and squeezing the play. It made if difficult for Brentford to get any real quality possession."
"They had frustrated us in the first half but I thought we stuck well to our game plan and got what we deserved in the end."
"We were desperate to put the events of Saturday behind us but in the same way, whether you have won or lost, as soon as a game is finished it is time to look forward to the next game. I had never been involved in a game like the one at Field Mill. To concede four goals in such a short period of time was unprecedented. In your head you kind of knew then that the game was over no matter how hard you tried. That's what made the last hour a bit surreal."
"But hopefully that game is laid to rest now and we can look forward to the FA Cup trip to Rushden. As a player I have never really enjoyed any run of note in the competition so I am doubly keen to ensure we take our place in the 2nd round draw. I know speaking to some of the lads who were involved in the Chelsea game that is was a very special day, one that they will remember long after their playing days are over. But whilst that would be nice to repeat our immediate thoughts are all about getting through on Saturday."
