Vinny Mukendi's second goal of the season was enough to earn Macclesfield their first win of the season and a place in Round Two of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
Home keeper Jose Veiga kept the Silkmen in the game with some impressive early saves and Morecambe had no reply after Mukendi's strike just before the break.
Rangy striker Mukendi had the first strike on goal of the evening, collecting a flick-on from Tyrone Barnett to hit a low drive skidding past the near post in just the second minute.
Barnett himself went close on seven minutes, collecting the ball 25 yards out from a defensive mix-up and smashing a volley just wide.
Darren Moss called Jose Veiga into action for the first time in the 12th minute with a near post bullet header from a Chris Shuker corner which the keeper brilliantly tipped over the bar.
Shuker should have put the Shrimps in front in the 14th minute when he found space just six yards out after a poor defensive header fell to him but Veiga was again equal to it and produced a fantastic point blank save to deny the former Macc man.
Mark Duffy almost broke the deadlock soon after, turning home skipper Paul Morgan and blasting over from a tight angle as the visitors began to turn the screw after the opening exchanges had been all Macc.
Shuker went close again following a ball in from the right and the rebound fell to Jimmy Spencer who saw his effort blocked.
At the other end Barnett squandered a fantastic opportunity to put the Silkmen ahead on 26 minutes - heading a Lewis Chalmers corner onto the top of the bar from six yards after he had done well to lose his man.
The front two linked up again in the 32nd minute but after Mukendi's good flick on and smart control by Barnett, the striker dragged his shot well wide.
The Silkmen took the lead three minutes before the interval when a long ball forward was headed on by Hamza Bencherif and Barnett's flick played Mukendi in on goal who made no mistake powering a low effort into the corner of sub keeper Lawrie Walker's goal.

Vinny Mukendi - Scored his second cup goal of the campaign and linked up well with strike partner Barnett on a few ocassions |
Moss looped a header just over the bar five minutes into the second period after Veiga punched a left wing cross out to the former Shrewsbury full back and then from the next Shrimps attack Spencer's low drive lacked any real power and was easily collected by Veiga low to his right.
Morecambe really should have been level on the hour when Shuker's pinpoint cross from the right was headed onto the post by Garry Hunter and from the rebound Paul Mullin inexplicably missed from just two yards out, slicing out for a throw in.
Lawrence Wilson earned the first booking of the evening on 63 minutes, showing his frustration to push Lewis Chalmers off the pitch when trying to keep in a loose pass by the touchline. Moments later Mukendi was brought down by visitors skipper Jim Bentley just outside the box but Chalmers could only hit the free kick straight into the wall.
Paul Bolland was introduced for Chalmers on 70 minutes before Sammy McIlroy brought Stuart Hendrie on for Spencer in the 76th minute, but as the second half wore on chances were few and far between at both ends, with only rare set pieces threatening either keeper.
Neat control from Mukendi allowed him space to thread a great ball through into Barnett's path sprinting through the centre with four minutes to go but his angled drive flew wide.
The closest the Shrimps came to an equaliser came with a minute on the clock when Stuart Drummond flicked a long throw on to Darren Moss who acrobatically volleyed wide from 12 yards.
