Four goals in 16 second-half minutes did all the damage to the Silkmen as Carlisle came from a goal down to progress to the third round.
Set pieces were the order of the day in a largely uneventful first half as no fewer than ten were won by both sides, the first nine of which of which coming to nothing.
The home side won seven of the flag-kicks and started well, forcing two early corners but the Silkmen cleared the danger both times as they looked to settle into the game.
Taiwo should have taken the lead for the home side, but fluffed his chance after a good ball into the box.
The game settled a bit and the Silkmen's first real shot was from Ricky Sappleton from long range, but the ball sailed harmlessly over the bar.
Carlisle made an early change as David Raven was replaced by Horwood as Carlisle won, and wasted another corner.
The Silkmen won their first corner of the match which found Daniel, but his shot was blocked after he found space to shoot on the edge of the area.
The Silkmen were then thankful to the bar as Bridge-Wilkinson hit narrowly too high after a good cross from Taiwo.
A Silkmen free kick was played out to Stephen Reed but he couldn't get the ball on target.
Jon Brain then had to save his first shot of anger, dropping well to gather from Rothery.
The Silkmen then took the lead, appropriately enough, from a corner, which was played in by Bolland, who found Shaun Brisley who headed into the bottom corner to go into half time 1-0 up as the whistle went seconds later.
Half time
The second half continued the theme as Jon Brain tipped the ball over the bar for a Carlisle corner after only a few seconds, but Bolland cleared the early danger.
The home side continued to put pressure on the Silkmen with a free-kick on the left causing havoc in the box before it was cleared by Brisley. The Cumbrians then had a long range effort that cause Brain no problem.
Another corner for the home side came when Reed headed a dangerous cross wide of danger, but the Offiong corner flew past the post.
Tom Taiwo then missed an absolute sitter as Offiong beat the defence for pace, and squared the ball only for him to blaze the ball off target.
The Silkmen were hanging on and couldn't get control of the ball for anything other than short periods and were againthankful of the home side's wayward shooting as Rothery hit over the bar from well inside the area.
Carlisle made their final two substitutions bringing on their first choice strike partnership, replacing Rothery with Anyinsah and Offiong with Dobie, the club top scorer.
But the goal which had been coming eventually came from Robson as he hit a low shot from 18 yards at a narrow angle after 64 minutes.
With a stronger side now on the pitch for the home side, the Silkmen won a corner when Daniel's shot was blocked wide but a free kick was given to Carlisle.
Then came the moment that really changed the game. The Silkmen then had their best chance of the half as Hamza raced into the box and found his way clean into the box, but the 'keeper made a good save, the ball was played to the other end as Dobie got himself one on one with Brain, and did what Bencherif couldn't to make it 2-1 just four minutes after the leveller.
Ricky Sappleton went close to levelling again but headed a Reed cross just over the bar from the edge of the six yard box.
Dobie could have made it 3-1 when he was in a similar situation again, but screwed his shot wide as he tried to beat the advancing Brain.
The Silkmen's first sub saw John Rooney replacing Matty Tipton, who applauded the hardy bunch of Silkmen supporters before leaving the pitch.
But within seconds of the sub the Silkmen were 3-1 down as Bridge-Wilkinson headed home from a left hand cross with Brain stranded coming to punch the ball.
It was 4-1 two minutes later as Scott Dobie had the easiest of finishes when given far too much space.
At the other end, just four minutes later, Colin Daniel's pace win the Silkmen a corner which was cleared as far as John Rooney who curled a beautiful shot in off the right-post to make it 4-2
Carlisle's 10th corner of the game wasn't cleared, but a cross was too close to Brain to held the ball well.
The two sides seemed to be going through the motions as the game entered four minutes of injury time, with no real chance for the Silkmen to work back into the game and the full time whistle brought the JPT campaign to an end for another season.
