It was stalemate at Sincil Bank this afternoon's as the curtain came down on the 2009/10 League campaign. With the home side seemingly content to play on the counter attack it was the Silkmen who enjoyed the majority of possession in the first period but as has often been the case just lacking the killer touch in front of goal.

The game came to life midway through the second period when City's Davide Somma was sent off following an altercation with Sean Hessey, following a clash of heads. Clearly aggrieved the home fans made their feelings known to the match officials but despite the man advantage, Macc were unable to get that all important first goal.

The best chance fell to Emile Sinclair who beat two men with one of his trademark runs before rounding the keeper only to see his rolled shot cleared off the line.

The result sees the Silkmen finish in 19th.

The Silkmen finished the season with a 0-0 away draw for the second season running as they were held at Lincoln City's Sincil Bank.

It was the Silkmen who has the better of the match - particularly in the first half and went close three times in the opening ten minutes as Colin Daniel found space to shoot from 25 yards forcing a good save which led to a corner. The kick was flicked on by Nat Brown to Daniel again but his volley fizzed past the top corner.

Emile Sinclair then latched on go a Rooney through ball and seemed to have been clipped from behind but his appeals to the referee were waved away.

Jose Veiga's first action of the match came as he rushed off his line to gather up a through ball from the feet of Somma.

But the Silkmen were back on the attack again soon after and Sinclair's run freed up room for Vinny Mukendi to strike a shot over the bar.

Sinclair then went close himself as he outmuscled two defenders and fired off a shot but saw it fly wide.

Another string of corners followed - the Silkmen would have 14 throughout the game - but still couldn't make the breakthrough.

At the other end Lincoln were counter attacking with Somma the target, but the Silkmen back line were up to the task of keeping the danger at bay. On one of the few occasions the home side got the better of the back line Jose was on hand to make a good one-on-one save with the defence looking for the flag.

Another Macc corner deceived the entire defence leaving the 'keeper stranded but Colin Daniel's volley at the far post flew over. The home side also had a goal line clearance to thank four minutes later from Emile Sinclair's looping header after yet another corner.

The home side eased the pressure with a corner of their own but moments later the Silkmen were attacking again and won a free kick for a late challenge on Bell. There were complaints from the visiting fans as Bell had found Mukendi in a good position before being could - giving a clear advantage - but play was pulled back and Nat Brown headed the ball into the arms of the 'keeper just before half time.

One familiar face entered the fray at half time as Richard Butcher came off the bench for a Lincoln side who has clearly been given something of rocket at the break.

A free kick for the home side was deflected out for a corner in the Imps first real spell of pressure in the match. A few minutes later Izak Reid made a good block to concede another corner which led to Carl Tremarco blocking on the line and the Macc defence looking on as the rebound was rifled onto the post.

The second half saw less attacking action bu a good opening from the Silkmen came after a passing spell that has seen Macc retaining possession for a good 15 passes as they patiently looked for an opening. Lee Bell eventually found Paul Bolland in the box but he saw his near post strike well parried.

From the corner it was again a defender on the line who kept the scores level as Colin Daniel's overhead kick found the man on the post rather than the back of the net.

Lincoln's main threat had been coming on the break from David Somma and this was snuffed out by a red card. A scuffle in the box saw the Leeds United loanee planting his head on Sean Hessey in view of the referee giving the man in black no option.

But rather than open up the game further, this red card saw the Imps sitting deeper and the Silkmen showing less attacking intent.

Another good spell of passin found Emile Sinclair who teed himself up as he did at Barnet but this time his shot was parried away.

Vinn Mukendi was replaced by Craig Lindfield as Lincoln looked to win the game themselves, L39 only finding Veiga when connecting with a low cross from the left.

Lee Bell then came off to be replaced by Michael Thomas as the game entered injury time as the Blues had one last opportunity to win the game.

Sinclair used his raw pace to get past his full back and cut inside. He advanced along the line and drew the 'keeper only to see his placed shot somehow skewed clear.

It was a shame - both for the player who had put in a sterling performance and the 200 or so following supporters in excellent voice all afternoon - that the chance didn't earn the three points probably deserved for the efforts of everyone in blue. On and off the pitch.
