The Silkmen's disappointing start to the 2008/09 Coca-Cola League Two season continued this afternoon at the Fraser Eagle Stadium with another defeat and more worryingly another game without a goal.

The home side took the spoils thanks to two second half goals from Paul Mullin and Jimmy Ryan, both conceded in disappointing fashion. After a fairly uneventful, and even first half, the home team were gifted the lead on fifty minutes when danger man Paul Mullin was left unmarked to volley in ex Silkmen John Miles' corner. Having done so well to contain Stanley prior to the break, the game was effective over as a contest five minutes later when a fairly innocuous shot from Jimmy Ryan somehow managed to find its way into the back of the net.

Despite a late rally, which saw good chances for both Martin Gritton and Gareth Evans, the Silkmen weren't able to exert anywhere near enough pressure and could have had no complaints with the result that leaves them pointless and goalless after their first three league outings.

Silkmen boss Keith Alexander, who had given a debut to loan signing Clayton McDonald was understandably downbeat after the game but promising to ring the changes. "I don't think any of the lads who played today could have any complaints if they weren't in the team for the visit of Darlington next week. I've gone with essentially the same team for the last three games and perhaps it is time to start looking at different options."
