The Silkmen make one of the shorter trips of the season on Tuesday night as they travel to Bury for this League Two fixture.
The Shakers have put a terrible start to the season well behind them. The first seven matches saw two wins and five defeats in a run stretching to the middle of September.
But since then, the Gigg Lane club have only lost twice in 21 matches. These both came in December, both away from home at Morecambe and Dagenham and Redbridge.
This run has lifted them to third in the League Two table, five points ahead of fourth placed Notts County.
The Silkmen are looking to get back to winning ways after a home defeat to Shrewsbury at the weekend, but it will prove a tough prospect against a side beaten only twice in five months.
The Blues are still nine points ahead of Grimsby in 23rd position with two games in hand, and have between one and three games in hand on every other club in the bottom half, apart from Darlington.

Bury have won their last five straight League matches as they consolidated their position in the top three in the division. But the last six matches began with a 1-1 draw at Grimsby.
This was followed by a brace of 2-1 wins, away at Bournemouth and at home to Bradford before three 1-0 wins. These came against Hereford (H), Rochdale (H) and the return fixture against Bradford City.
