The Silkmen face Morecambe at the Moss Rose in the Johnstone's Paints Trophy this evening and we caught up with Gary Simpson ahead of the match.
It was a good performance on Saturday, you'll want to build on that platform.
"Obviously the key at the weekend was for us to put in a good performance. As I said before the game, if you put in the effort and provide the performance then the results will come. Speaking to people from Chesterfield after the match, they were very complimentary about us and the way we played so it's a matter of keeping going and that first win will come sooner rather than later.
"We know we've not had the results yet, but the performances have been ok and only one has been what you would describe as unacceptable. I've was pleased with how we have stood up to be counted after going a goal down on Saturday and when we crumbled the week before, it was encouraging to come back from a goal down.
"There's never been a problem with the spirit, and we need the more experienced players to step up and help the younger lads through at times."
It's a tournament some people don't take seriously. What can we expect tonight?
"I can't speak for Morecambe, but they have some experienced players who weren't involved on Saturday and could well get a run-out if they decide to shuffle the pack, but I want to win the game.
"I want to win every game we play to be honest and I'm very aware that we have yet to win a game this season and that's something we want to put right as soon as possible. That's before you think about what could be at stake if you do well in this competition which is a trip to Wembley. But that's a long way off at the moment and I just want to approach this game in the best way we can."
Bearing that in mind, it's still three games in a week.
"Yes it is, and we do have one or two who are carrying slight knocks who might benefit a bit from having a full week off. Stockport don't have a game this week so will be resting their players and we have to judge who is fit to play.
"The lads all worked very hard on Saturday and you have to ask if some of them, especially those coming back from injury, can manage three games in a week. But this isn't a reaction to the competition as they are decisions I would have had to have made if it was a League match and there may be players who play tonight who then need a break next weekend.
"But another thing we have said all summer is that we believe we have a squad of players capable of stepping in and have changed the side between games this season. Our bench on Saturday was filled with players who I would be happy to play, and several who have started games this season already.
"So any changes I make will be what I think is best for the team to go out and win the game, but when matches are thick and fast like this you do sometimes need to have half an eye on the next one and all of your squad needs to play their part."
So you're looking for a win to go into the Stockport game with some momentum?
"As I said, we want a result in every game and we know that Saturday is very important. Not just because it is a derby game and important to the fans, but they are also very close to us in the division. They have a free week thanks to getting a bye so will be preparing for our game all week, whilst we're busy preparing for both matches.
"Going into it with a win under our belts might give us a confidence boost, so tonight is important to us."
