Gary Simpson Interview

Posted on: Sat 28 Aug 2010

The Silkmen drew 1-1 with Chesterfield at the Moss Rose today and we spoke to Gary simpson after the match.

Pleased with the point today?

"After Saturday the most important thing for me was for us to put in a decent performance and I think we did that today. We created a few chances and did well against a side who will be up there at the end of the season.

"And although we went a goal down, we kept going and battled back, and could have won the game in the end. We had some good chances and made the 'keeper work. Nat Brown had a great header which he saved well.

"We want to win games, especially at home, but I was happy with the way we responded to conceding and pleased to get a goal."

We looked to have worked a lot harder.

"We know that we probably don't have the best players, or the most experienced players in the division, but what I always want us to do is put a real shift in. And today they hung on, showed a lot of character. Today was a difficult match and I think we did well and drew a bit of a line under that Accrington match.

"We tried to pass the ball more this season and in the early games we have been trying to play it the right way and pass the ball to create the chances. We made a few changes today because we have the squad to adapt to who we are playing.

"There's never been a problem with the team spirit in pre-season and in all of the opening games until Accrington. And today the lads have stuck together and worked for the team which should lead to better performances and better results."
