Macclesfield Town face Chesterfield at the Moss Rose this weekend and we caught up with manager Gary Simpson ahead of the game.
Has everything that needs to be said about last week been said by now?
"Pretty much, yes. We've not gone in for shouting and bawling at them this week because every player involved knew that the performance wasn't up to standard at the weekend, but we've had a good week in training, worked very hard early in the week and the players know that we are all looking for a reaction from them this weekend."
How has training been this week?
"After we had the talks on Monday we have had a very good week. We've been very happy with the way things have gone this week and we have tried to use the sessions to lift them and get back on track. We did a lot of hard work early in the week and have prepared well for this weekend's game on Friday."
Might you make some changes?
"After a result like that there is always the temptation to change things and freshen it up for the next game. I've had a lot to think about with a good week's training and then we had a reserve match midweek. We have some injured players back as well so there is scope to shuffle the pack a bit.
"But I'm confident that we have put together a good squad here so we know we can move people in or out without weakening things by changing the personnel.
"The biggest change thought I hope will be the return of the work ethic and confidence that we had coming out of pre-season. They know that you can't afford to put in anything less than your best in these games, and in a game against one of the pre-season favourites then hard work has to be only the start."
Three home games in a week now is that a chance to get the season kicked off?
"Hopefully, yes because I've said before that we need to improve on our home record, but of course it could work against you if we are still looking for that first win. But the players have a chance to show that they are better than last week's result.
Obviously if you have three games in a week it's tough enough, so not having to worry about travel is bit of a bonus.
"But no matter if we were at home or away, the mood would be the same. The players want to have a positive reaction to the defeat at the weekend and regardless of where the game was, they will want to try and put things right.
"We just want to put in a good performance on the day. Once you get the performance and the work levels right then the results follow. If we do what we know that we can, then we are certainly capable of taking three points."
