Post match reaction

Posted on: Sat 13 Mar 2010

Gary Simpson could not hide his delight as the final whistle blew at the Moss Rose this afternoon. And that was still very much apparent when we caught up with him moments later.

"It was always going to be a tough game this afternoon," said Simmo, "but credit to the lads. They've put in another good shift today and thoroughly deserved the three points."

"We were missing a few players with injury, and that coupled with the fact Lincoln had recalled Richard Butcher made that task tougher. But again the lads who came in did well and I was delighted. And I am sure the gaffer would have been."

"Today was all about honouring Keith but at the same time once that whistle went we had to focus. That's was Keith and I have been drumming into our sides and hopefully we're finally now starting to get the results our performances have perhaps deserved. We had a bit of luck at times but we'll take that and we scored at good times. With them down to ten men the second goal was always going to be decisive and it was great when it came."

"We're three points closer to where we want to be. We've just got to keep going now until the end of the season. Once we get there hopefully this club is still in this division. We can't let this slip now, we've got to keep going for Keith until the end of the season and make sure this club is still here and in this division."

"We've picked up another injury today. Junior had trained in the week but its the first time he's had a hamstring injury. So he was keen to play but when he went for his first run it just went. We could be looking at a month if its a bad one."

"Bolly failed a late fitness test and it looks like Ricky Sappleton will need an operation as he's torn a muscle. But the likes of John Rooney, who stepped up today did really well and we've always got the young lads to help out."

"Today was a sad day but a good one on the pitch. We've got eleven more games and we just need to keep picking up the points."
