Keith Alexander was delighted with his team's performance at Blundell Park this evening albeit reflecting on ninety minutes where more clinical finishing would have undoubtedly led to securing all three points. We caught up with the gaffer as he prepared for the journey home and first up his overall reaction.
"Well the first and most important aim for this evening was to avoid defeat," explained Keith. "So in that respect I am pleased to have done that, but anyone who saw us in the first half would know that we didn't come here only looking for a point and on balance of the play I don't think anyone here at the game tonight could argue that of the two sides we were by far the most dangerous and deserved to win."
"We started the game very well, didn't allow them to get in their stride and I felt that set the tone for the ninety minutes. The fact we are going home with just one point is down to the fact we are struggling to score goals. It's as simple as that. It's great we are creating chances but at the moment we're just lacking that bit of extra quality that the sides up at the top possess."
"To concede so close to half time was a big blow especially as Grimsby would be playing with the strong wind behind them after the break. But credit to the lads as they battled back and fully deserved to get back on level terms. Last season we probably would have lost the game so that's the real pleasing aspect about tonight."
"Butch scored a great goal but you see him doing that in training all the time, where he is always practising his free kicks. It gave us a big lift and I thought we looked by far the stronger of the two sides as the game wore on."
"That's two good points from the last two away games. We've only lost four times on our travels so far this season. But I am not getting carried away. Football is about winning and that's something we haven't done in eight games now. That's something we have to address. But we can take a lot from our recent performances and it sets us up nicely for the visit of Rochdale to the Moss Rose on Saturday."
"They've lost tonight so will be looking to bounce back and there's sure to be a good crowd. So roll on Saturday."
