The thoughts of Keith Alexander
Silkmen boss Keith Alexander was in a confident mood as he headed out to take this morning's training session.
It has been a busy week both on the transfer front and with the players reporting back for training on Wednesday. And the gaffer has been pleased with what he has seen so far.
"It's been a good week," explained Keith. "We've managed to get a few of my key targets to sign up and the lads have worked really hard in training. So much so that we'll be introducing ball work into training today."
Is that earlier than normal then?
Absolutely! Normally it's a good week, sometimes even two. Early on it's all about fitness. But the game is changing. And fair play to the lads. They have come back looking fit and strong which is why we've brought things forward a bit.
And first thoughts on the new training facility?
It's excellent and will only get better over time. It provides us with a real step change in facilities and it is something that can only be good for the club. It's surrounded by beautiful countryside and with Tatton Park down the road we took the opportunity to take them out for a run. So all in all I have been very impressed.
A busy week on the transfer front as well?
Yes but that was to be expected. As I said the other week, come the start of pre-season things start to happen. You only have to look around the league to see there has been a lot more activity.
Getting the likes of Nat Brown, Paul Morgan and Paul Bolland to commit is a big plus and they will be valuable players to have both on and off the field.
Any more signings planned?
There are a few more irons in the fire but I don't really to say too much until the players have signed on the dotted line. Clearly we need to get another goalkeeper on board and you can never have enough goalscorers! But I think every manager is saying that right now.
