Silkmen boss Keith Alexander was delighted with his team's effort this afternoon, putting the victory down to hard work and a never say die attitude.

"To be honest we could have had the game wrapped at half time," commented Keith. "We started well and created lots of chances and good chances at that. Ironically Martin scored from probably the hardest one of the lot, but it was a superb finish and I was really pleased for him."

"I decided to bring him back into the starting XI this week as we've been struggling at times to hold onto possession. Martin is a good outlet for us and I felt he combined well with Simon Yeo and both could have been on the score sheet before we took the lead."

"So whilst we were ahead at the break we knew they would be fancying their chances in the second half. I played here for three years and I know how much effect the slope has on the play. So we knew they would come at us and that was certainly the case."

"We were under the cosh and that had a good twenty minutes when we were guilty of perhaps sitting back too much. But it is an easy thing to do with the slope. The most important thing is that we hung in, got through a difficult period in the game and took our chances when they came."

"Franny, like Martin, took his goal extremely well. That's the best way possible to say to me that I've got it wrong and he should be in the starting line up. It is a squad game and this is the stage of the season when you really do have to use all the resources at your disposable."

"In the same vein Danny Thomas needed a rest but I thought he looked very lively when he came off the bench. So both he and Franny have given me a headache for Tuesday and the game with Grimsby. But it's a good problem to have."

"Today's result was all about character and hard work. That's four points from the last two away games which is a bonus. The challenge we have, and one I have been harping on and on about, is to sort out our home form. But today will give us a lot of confidence and roll on Tuesday."
