Keith Alexander Benefit Match

Posted on: Mon 29 Mar 2010
Sincil Bank Stadium will host a benefit match in aid of former Imps manager Keith Alexander on Monday 3rd May 2010 (ko 3pm).

The fixture will see a Keith Alexander XI, managed by Keith's assistant manager at Lincoln and Macclesfield, Gary Simpson, take on an All Stars XI, with current MK Dons manager and former England International, Paul Ince set to be player manager.

Gary Simpson will be collating a side featuring players that played under Keith during his time as a manager, while Paul Ince and Barry Fry, the Director of Sport at Peterborough United, will be pulling together a star studded line up of footballing greats and big names from the world of football.

Chairman of Lincoln City, Steff Wright said, "Keith put far more into football than he took out of the game and there is a desire within football to give something back to keith's family. There has been enthusiasm from everyone we have spoken to and I am sure it will be a fitting tribute."

Macclesfield Town chairman Mike Rance added: "Keith made a massive contibution to the game he loved and it was a privilege to have worked with him at Moss Rose. A benefit match will give us all an opportunity to give something back to his family. Though we were the last club to have benefited from his leadership, Sincil Bank was where he established his reputation and Lincoln was his family home.

"It's entirely appropriate therefore that this tribute should take place on the ground where he had his greatest success. I hope that as many Macclesfield supporters as possible will be able to make the trip to take part in what should be a celebration of Keith's life."

The sentiment was echoed by Keith's long time friend Gary Simpson who said: "It will be a real honour for me to take charge of the Keith Alexander memorial team for this match. "Both Keith and I had a good time together at Lincoln and hopefully we will be able to put on a good show in front of a good turnout to raise som money for his family and foundation."

Further details on the squads for the event and ticketing arrangements will be announced in due course.
