Manager on the Silkmen's 2-0 win.

The Silkmen signed off their 2012 pre season campaign with a win over FC United of Manchester at the Moss Rose, and we spoke to Steve King after the game.

A 2-0 win and a decent workout today?

"That's exactly what it was. I had some players to look at today and a few positions where I wanted to look at for the first game. I've got most of the positions pencilled in in my head but there are one or two up for grabs.

"We've had a decent pre season, and as I've said all along it's not about results, but about getting them to play the way we want them to play and I think it's coming together."

You say results don't matter, but you must be pleased with the goals we're scoring.

"You would much rather be scoring than conceding and it's just as important at the other end, and we've been keeping clean sheets, but I'm pleased with the way we're playing."

We took control more in the second half.

"Murtagh ran the game really. He oozes class and is so comfortable on the ball, and can find space when he receives the ball anywhere on the pitch."

Do you feel ready for the season?

"I think we're nearly there, possibly a player or two shirt and that's something I'm hoping to address next week and should happen before Friday. I think we probably need another type of forward. We're still thinking about the best system, but I always tell players that I don't pick them, they pick themselves. If they perform well they will be in the side."

And what about players going out?

"We might have some news on that next week, in particular with Colin Daniel and its no secret that Carl Tremarco isn't featuring in my plans. His agent is looking for a new club for him."
