The Silkmen kick off their home campaign for 2012/13 with the visit of Wrexham to the Moss Rose on Tuesday night at 7.45pm.
One of the pre season favourites, the Dragons amassed an incredible 98 points last season, breaking the club record along the way. But with Fleetwood sweeping all before them, even finishing within touching distance of three figures was only enough to secure the top play off spot.
After losing out to Luton in last season's semi final, they would have been hoping for better luck this time around, only to be left disappointed as they were beaten 3-2 on aggregate.
Since then the club have lost top scorer Jake Speight and former Silkmen midfielder Jamie Tolley to Mansfield, but kept the overall player turnover low. Experienced forward Brett and Martin Riley, who made the opposite move from Mansfield to Wrexham could prove key signings as they look to go one better this season.
They got the season off to a good start with a home match against Woking which saw a win described as 'comfortable' thanks to goals from Robert Ogleby, who joined from Hearts late last season, Dean Keates and Mark Creighton in a match that finished 3-1.
The Silkmen of course played the previous evening and may be able to call on slightly fresher legs, even this early in the season, but suffered opening day disappointment in a 2-1 defeat at Hereford.
