John Askey believes tomorrow’s clash with Braintree Town could be crucial for the Silkmen by the end of the current campaign, as the race for the playoffs heat up.
Following Wednesday’s defeat to Barrow at the Moss Rose, Macclesfield remain six points shy of fifth, which is now occupied by Barrow.
Looking ahead to the game on Saturday, Askey said: “If we win then the picture changes. Everyone’s saying it’s a must win game but we’ll see at the end of the season”.
Braintree haven’t lost a league game since 7th January, and Askey knows that in their current form they will be a formidable force at the Moss Rose.
“The manager’s done a good job there because at the start of the season they didn’t look organised, but he’s gone and brought in one or two players, and they do score goals with (Michael) Cheek up front, so we’ll have to be at our best to beat them”.
Macclesfield ran out 3-1 winners at Braintree earlier on in the season, and will be looking to replicate that performance this weekend.
