Macclesfield Town guaranteed their number will be in the hat for the First Round draw of the FA Cup with a nervy win against Alfreton Town.
The Silkmen smashed their way to a three goal lead in the first half before being pegged back either side of half-time to leave John Askey and his side nervously waiting for the final whistle.
It only took five minutes for Kristian Dennis to build upon his impressive goal tally for the season.
Danny Whitaker, who was making his 300th club appearance, played a beautiful through-ball to the striker, who had all the time in the world to place his shot into the bottom left corner.
The Silkmen managed to then double their lead just two minutes later.
Lindon Meikle turned his man before curling a cross to the back post. Captain Paul Turnbull was on hand to power a diving header past Matthew Duke in the visitor’s goal.
Jordan Robertson, who scored a hat-trick in the last round of the completion against Hednesford Town, almost pulled one back for his side in the 18th minute when he headed just over the bar from a corner.
After repelling a spell of pressure from the Reds, Macclesfield scored a third in the 37th minute.
Whitaker and Dennis linked up yet again as the former Chesterfield man found the striker open in the penalty area who struck the ball into the back of the net.
However, just two minutes later the visiting side reduced the deficit when Samuel Jones smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
Duke then got the better of Dennis when he denied him of a first half hat-trick with a superb save at close quarters.
Alfreton got within a goal of the Silkmen in the 51st minute when Jordan Robertson headed in a high cross from Daniel Bradley on the right-wing.
The Reds had a glorious chance to then equalise in the 59th minute when a swift counter attack saw Ryan Wilson through on goal, but he wasted his chance as his shot was blasted over the bar.
Macclesfield’s first real chance of the second half had to wait until the 73rd minute.
Alfreton looked to have a chance but the Silkmen countered quickly through Danny Rowe. The winger found Meikle in plenty of space but the former York City man couldn't keep his shot on target as it flew over the crossbar.
The Silkmen managed to repel Alfreton for the remainder of the game to solidify their place in the next round of the competition, which includes teams from League One and League Two.
