Macclesfield Town fell to defeat in the Vanarama National League to Halifax Town at the Moss Rose Stadium.
The Shaymen snatched all three points in the 77th minute when Shaun Tuton slotted past Ritchie Branagan.
It was a frantic start to the game, with both sides applying the pressure, but it was the Silkmen who had the first chance and it was Danny Whitaker who got a shot away on the edge of the box, but Sam Johnson in the Halfiax goal saved comfortably.
Macc continued to look for the opener and a well worked attack found its way to Danny Rowe just outside the box on the half-volley, but the midfielder fired over.
The visitors looked to play their way into the game and they had their first real opportunity of the game in the 11th minute through captain Nicky Wroe, but the midfielder’s effort was saved well by Ritchie Branagan.
The match was end to end throughout the opening 30 minutes and Macc looked too take advantage and get into the lead but were denied, firstly from a corner where George Pilkington headed wide and after through Rowe, who’s effort just outside the box was securely saved by Johnson.
It was the Shaymen who begun to pile on the pressure as we begun to get closer to half-time and it was Wroe who came closer than anyone to breaking the deadlock, as his effort from the edge of the box rebounded off the post.
Halifax continued to attack and came close again in the 38th minute, this time it was winger Sam Walker who met a half-volley in the area, but it was deflected over for a corner.
The resulting corner was met by the first sight of the ball hitting the back of net, but Shaun Tuton’s shot was ruled out for offside.
After the half-time interval, it was the Silkmen who begun the brightest, coming close through captain Paul Turnbull, after the skipper’s shot outside the box, just went over the visitor’s goal.
The shots continued to come at Halifax from Macc, this time it was Rowe who tried his luck with a placed effort, but he was denied by Johnson, who tipped the ball wide.
However, it was Halfax who eventually took the lead, a ball played through to Shaun Tuton from Kingsley James was slotted home past Branagan to make it 1-0 to the Shaymen.
Macc looked for the equaliser and after some great build up play, the ball was played to David Fitzpatrick out wide and the fullback played a teasing ball across the box, but it was eventually cleared.
Despite continuing to put pressure on the Shaymen, Macc were unable to get the equaliser that they needed and it was Halifax who snatched all three points.
