It was a disappointing day out for Macclesfield after giving away a two goal lead, as Lincoln powered back to take all three points at the Sincil Bank Stadium.
Two early goals by Kristian Dennis and Paul Lewis were almost immediately wiped out after 20 minutes as The Imp were 3-2 up in the 26th minute.
The defeat leaves Macc on four points in the National League after the 5-3 defeat as they will leave Lincoln thinking what could have been after a great start.
The Silkmen took the lead in the 3rd minute after a free-kick from Paul Turnbull on the right-hand side was met by Dennis who was free in the box and put it past Paul Farman.
Just three minutes later it was 2-0 and it was another cross from Turnbull but this time in the form of a corner and it was Lewis with a great effort to head home the cross and double the lead.
But it was just five minutes later and Lincoln had pulled one back from a corner after Jalal had made a fantastic save to deny Jack Muldoon as the resulting corner was met by Liam Hearn.
It was fast energetic start to the game and just a minute after The Imps had pulled one back when Dennis was on the end of a Holroyd pass but could only steer his shot wide.
Jalal made another great save in the 20th minute when Chris Bush stood over a free-kick from 25-yards out and the Keeper managed to tip it on to the post and Pilkington was on hand to clear.
Lincoln were back on level terms in the 24th minute when Liam Hearn won the ball in the box and smashed it into the top corner leaving Jalal with no chance as Lincoln drew level.
The turnaround was then complete two minutes later when Matt Rhead climbed well to head past Jalal and make it Lincoln 3-2 Macclesfield after 26 minutes.
In the second half Macc came out looking to amend the result and controversially in the 46th minute, Jack Sampson had an effort ruled out for offside.
But then it was Lincoln who were the ones who made the breakthrough in the second-half when Matt Rhead bought down the ball and fired home to make it 4-2.
There was a pause in the game in the 68th minute when goalkeeper Shwan Jalal took a knock to the face and was stretchered off, replaced by Ritchie Branagan.
Things got worse then in the 72nd minute when Lincoln made it 5-2 and Liam Hearn completed his hat-trick after latching onto a back pass from Paul Turnbull.
Dennis almost got one back for The Silkmen in the 89th minute but his effort was saved well by Farman in the Lincoln goal.
However, in the 94th minute Dennis successfully pulled one back to give Macclesfield and Dennis a little something to cheer about before the final whistle.
