The Silkmen's 15 year run in the Football League came to an end with a 2-0 defeat at Southend thanks to goals in either half from the home side.
The Silkmen have never won at Southend and that stat was to remain as Macc bowed out of the Football League with a 2-0 defeat.
Goals from Peter Gilbert after 24 minutes and Neil Harris in injury time sealed the win for the home side.
But the Silkmen did have their chances with the best falling to Colin Daniel just before half-time but he could only steer his shot wide of the post.
For the Silkmen it was Jose Viega - making his 100th appearance for the club - who was the stand out player as time and again he denied a home side looking for the points to jump into the top three.
He saved shots which looked destined for the roof of the net and one-on-ones to keep the home side at bay but he could do nothing about Gilbert's low drive into the bottom corner midway through the first half.
The Silkmen tried to get back into the game, but the home side were buoyed with the knowledge that they were currently in the top three.
And even after a goal for Crawley dropped them back into the play-offs, they looked the more likely to score, and deep into injury time is was Harris who took a final touch from close range to seal the victory.
