It was honours even at a blustery Recreation Ground this afternoon with the weather the only winner.
Terrible conditions at the Recreation ground left both sides struggling to cope in a game of few chances.
Terrible conditions at the Recreation ground
It was a half with very few clear cut chances and not much in the way of action as the Silkmen played into a strong wind.
It took a full 15 minutes before the first chance of note, and it came thanks to excellent work from Emile Sinclair who beat his defender for pace and advanced along the touchline.
Drilling in a low cross it somehow evaded everyone, only needing a touch to open the scoring for the Silkmen.
Two minutes later the home side had their first shot, blazing well wide from 30 yards.
But the Shots went close just before the half hour. Straker picking up a loose ball after Izak Reid missed a header and hitting a shot inches past the foot of the far post.
Jon Brain had to punch clear a corner before a second corner was cleared as Aldershot started to exert some pressure, but the only attempts came from Donnelly who curled a strike well over the bar and Morgan who got in a good position but shanked his chance well over.
Junior Daniel then showed some great skill to take the ball away from two defenders but shot too early and the shot was saved.
TheEmile Sinclair's pace took him away from a defender again, and he looked to have been shoved in the back before the Alderhot man poked the ball over the line, but a goal-kick was the surprising decision as the game reached half time.
Half time saw Emile Sinclair replaced by Matthew Tipton and the Silkmen struggled to make the best of the wind at their backs. The home side had some good chances early on in the half with Jon Brain scrambling to clear after a corner hadn't been successfully cleared and then Morgan finding himself in loads of space but hit his shot wide of the post.
Ricky Sappleton was replaced by Ben Wright by the Silkmen midway through the half and he almost had a great chance with his first touch, running on to a through-ball, but was held back before he could touch the ball away.
Shortly afterwards he was in action at the other end, diving in to head a corner clear.
The Silkmen were trying to use the wind to shoot from range, and Hamza took the paint off the post with a low 25 yard drive which had the 'keeper beaten, but skimmed just wide.
Jon Brain, who, like his counterpart in the Aldershot goal hadn't had a save to make, showed great reflexes to pull off a magnificent save, one handed, from close range to tip the ball around the post at full stretch.
Hamza again got into a good position but was caught in two minds and snatched at his shot, sending it well over the bar. Moments later Morgan did the same at the other end, to the relief of John Brain.
Junior Daniel was replaced by Paul Bolland as the game entered three minutes of injury time, but neither side managed to force any further chances.
